The photos track an omnipresent element on the facades of buildings in Rome in several architectural styles. Although this decorative ventilation grid is common in many countries around the world, I was charmed by its high density in Italy. The grid functions as cover for air ducts, but in contemporary chaotic streets it stands as a weird floral symbol out of context, usually just a few inches above human flow and city trafic.
